During the 1990 civil war that was in our country, Liberia, lives and properties were destroyed. People were left vulnerable, outcast, disabled and handicapped. There were a lot of widows and street orphans. Currently, the living conditions of people in Liberia is very deplorable. About 80% of our people are out of job and suffering. In 1991 during the heat of the war, I accepted Jesus Christ with my whole heart and repented through the powerful ministering of one Pastor. St. John 10:1-19 convinced me that Jesus alone is what I need in my life. The Lord being my shepherd, I am not dead by gun or by knife as it was in the case of thousands of people. We were living on root plants and creek water at the time. While in the village one morning, the voice came to me and said, "I am the way which brought you through from the rebels and you are not harmed." When I said that to my mother, she said, "Follow Jesus." We are grateful to God that the war is over in our country and we have government and God-fearing President that speaks the language of the people. About five years ago, I saw that there is the need to care for those street children that are vulnerable. God led me, with passion to bring CLC Ministries to birth. |

Cancer has been a big part of our lives. My father and father-in-law passed away from cancer. A very close friend – I’d call her my sister in everything but blood –passed away from cancer. My wife Chris has a rare pre-cancerous disease called Paget’s disease for which there is no cure. She has been under constant doctor’s care for the last 9 years. So, when I was diagnosed with Stage IV prostrate cancer that had spread to my bladder, I knew what I was up against. I had been retired four years after working as a music teacher for 30 years and was busy with my new career as a student travel planner. I am forever grateful to my doctor who let us know he was not going to give up on me. The doctor’s words to us were, “You are too young to have prostate cancer. I’m not going to be happy giving you five years; I’d rather give you 30 years.” |

I was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and have worked in the Oncology Unit. I usually cried every time one of my patients died. And I’d feel the pain of the family who was left behind. Last March I received the most devastating news in my life. What a surprise to me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. |

Shortly after graduation from high school I joined the US Merchant Marines. During this period, I commenced smoking cigarettes, drinking whiskey and cursing like the sailor I was. Several years past, then I met and married my beautiful wife, Lorraine. I remained in the Merchant Marines, still smoking, drinking, and cursing.
Except for the long separations, Lorraine and I were doing fine. Finally, because the hardships of the long separations were making life so difficult for my family, I retired from the Merchant Marines and accepted employment with Duke University. Things were much smoother, but I kept on living my old sailor lifestyle.
Five years later, life changed again, Lorraine accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. That didn't change me though, I still continued my old ways. Lorraine changed. |
