Valentine's Day: Eros or Agape Love?

February is host to the day that everyone focuses on love and romance - Valentine's Day. Many people think of Cupid as a key symbol of this day. Who was he anyway?Cupid

Cupid is described as a Roman god and the son of Venus. (The Greeks called him Eros and his mother Aphrodite.) Cupid was believed to be a naughty boy that caused trouble. He carried a bow and quiver with two types of arrows - gold for creating true (agape) love and lead for sensual (eros) passion. If he shot you with one of his arrows you would feel its effect and be attracted to the next person you saw. Cupid and all the other gods of mythology are not real. They are promoted and perpetuated by legends and tall tales (and greeting card companies).

On the other hand, there is a source of agape love and affection that is real - it is the creator of the universe and His son Jesus. When your heart is on fire with love, it represents a part of who God is. For "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." - 1 John 4:16

God's has expressed His love for each and every one of us. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." - John 3:16

What greater love is there than to sacrifice your one and only son so that others can live eternally with you? All He asks for in return is for us to love Him and His son. The feature story this month continues the story of Yeshua and His life on earth and how He loves us.

When you see pictures of Cupid this month, know that there is a greater love for you that comes from our Heavenly Father.

Happy Valentine's,

Prophecies of His Ministry

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. - Isaiah 11:1-2

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God. To comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He may be glorified." - Isaiah 61:1-3

The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles - the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. - Isaiah 9:1-2

Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, if you know? - Proverbs 30:4

He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young. - Isaiah 40:11
