Sometimes life is overwhelming – sickness, death, divorce, mental anguish,  … We have been through life’s tough times too and know you need something to help get you through.

Hangin’ on Faith is here to provide hope and encouragement during those times. We are reaching out to help in various ways.  On this website are stories from real people who may have gone through similar situations. Sometimes reading about how someone else has prevailed will give you the strength and encouragement to make it through too. Read our stories to gain hope for yourself or share with another.  Most storytellers are even available for contact for more personal help and sharing.

Knowing there is a way to make it through a difficult time may provide a ray of hope...

Giving to God

By Rick, Raleigh NC

What is Tithing?

Simply put, tithing is giving back to God a tenth of what he has given to you. When you begin to tithe, focus on bringing the whole tithe into the storehouse (Malachi 3: 9-11) and don't worry (Matthew 6: 25-34).

Our story begins 15 years ago when our first child was born. My wife and I thought we needed to bring him up in the church. We both went to church as children and felt that "it's what we're supposed to do".

Are you a fan of roller coasters? Do you enjoy the thrill of the fast rush as it goes down a steep hill and the pull of gravity as it turns a hairpin curve? I have always loved that freefall feeling and the pull of gravity as you repel against it.

As an entrepreneur I have also ridden the highs and lows of a small business. The highs come from the thrill of a new client, a big project, or the influx of new money. The lows come from the heartache of a project you lost to a competitor or one ending early due to budget cuts. Really low feelings happen when we experience unexpected layoffs of employees and friends or when bills come due yet the bank account is empty.

What goes up must come down - so says the laws of gravity. What goes down must come up - eventually, so says the laws of economics. In these uncertain times we never know if we have hit bottom. Or worse, will the bottom completely fall out from under us? During these times we need our faith to keep us strong and focus on an optimistic forecast believing that things will get better - the laws of economics say so.

Many people have been given pink slips at work and have hit a bottom. How will they pay their bills? How long before they find a new job and get back to normal? The trouble is that normal for the economy is like that roller coaster that goes up and down - never flat and never always on top. That's what keeps investors putting their money into stocks or starting new companies. Always being employed and having excess cash is not normal. People all around the world will tell you that. When it comes to the financial world, suffering is, unfortunately, more normal than success. Reporters love to write about the one in a million that made it rich - ignoring the 999,999 that didn't.

If you are facing tough financial times and wondering how long it will be before you get back on top, keep your faith in the one that has control over the entire world. You may not understand why you have been dealt this hand right now - you may never know. For all we know, it may lead to bigger and better things later. Keep in perspective that bigger and better are not always measured in economic terms. Know that if you are down now you could be in for an up time or perhaps a bigger downfall. Just know that if you keep your faith in God you will eventually find a lifelong high.

For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11
