Featured Story - Dan's Heart Attack
By Dan, Raleigh NC

Life was good. We had recently celebrated the wedding of our daughter in a beautiful outdoor autumn setting. What a fun day with friends and family ending as we watched our new son-in-law and daughter ride away in a 1937 Rolls Royce, leaving for a Caribbean honeymoon and a new life together.

Now, six weeks later, we had driven five hours to visit them for the first time since they married. We had a wonderful dinner with them and his parents at the parents' home. After dinner, while sitting in the living room talking, I began feeling what I initially thought was indigestion; but as it continued, I realized it was too high for indigestion. Let's have a Heart to Heart about Love!

Last month we celebrated Valentine's Day - some might call it the "Month of Love." It got me thinking about hugs and kisses, love, and the symbols we use for them. It's kind of funny: for hugs we use an O, for kisses an X, and a heart for love. There are many types of love: there's "I love Chocolate," "I love you" to a friend, and a deeper love of your spouse or your child. Does love have depth? Per the dictionary, love could be either a noun or a verb. One definition is "a score of zero in tennis" - now who would love to have a score of love?

Where does love come from? Does it really come from our hearts? The heart is one of the most vital organs in the body. A person can be brain dead but as long as their heart is pumping - they are clinically "alive." Once the heart ceases to pump, a person physically dies. This month's feature story is about someone who had a heart attack.

I did a family poll to find out where love comes from and got three different answers: my son said it comes from the heart; my husband said it comes from the mind and I said it comes from our soul. After reviewing all 329 references to love in the Bible (Bible Gateway is a great web tool.), I found we were all right. In fact the prevailing text included something like "Love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our mind." (one such reference is in Matthew 22:37).

We can increase, abound, stir up, walk in and be grounded in love. God is Love and His never fails. Ours, however can fail since we can "love worthlessness" (Psalm 4:2). There is the passionate love - how exciting it can be (read "Song of Solomon," which I think uses the word most of all the books).

I'd like to share a few of my favorite Bible verses about this powerful word and what it means: Matt 5:4, Rom 13:8, 1 Corinthians 16:14, Proverbs 10:12, 2 Timothy 1:7, 1 Thessalonians 3:12, 1 Peter 4:8, Galatians 5:14, John 15:13, Romans 8:35. If you don't have a Bible or time to look them up but are interested in what these verses say, email me.
As always, please consider forwarding this newsletter to someone who might be interested in reading it or send us their email address for future issues. Oh and one last thought - I think every month should be a month of Love!
